A Houston area zip code landed on the U.S. list of top 10 contributors of federal income taxes. Houston’s Memorial Villages – 77024 zip code – was the only location outside of the New York metro area to crack the list.
According to data from the Internal Revenue Service, Memorial Villages was among the nation’s top ten contributors, paying an estimated $1.53 billion in estimated income taxes in 2008.
Residents of nine zip codes in the New York area represented the nation’s greatest percentage of federal income-tax revenue with contributors paying a combined total of $16.5 billion in 2008.
